Kent Club Social Evening in Penge
On the evening of 13th September The Kent Club for London Freemasons, represented by our Chairman W Bro Dudley Price PAGDC, took to the road for the first time to the newly redecorated South East London Masonic Centre in Penge to host an informal evening of drinks and a presentation from W Bro Peter Cartwright about Freemasonry In the British Empire.
Dressed in a colonial red uniform complete with pith helmet and carrying the Union Flag, Bro Cartwright entered to the strains of “Soldiers of the Queen”, before enlightening us about how Masons helped shape the British Empire.
In his unique way, Bro Cartwright both entertained and educated while explaining how Masonic influences in the Empire from the 16th to the 19th century touched every continent and how the growth of worldwide Freemasonry followed the expansion of the British Empire with Military Lodges in the 1730s, spreading to colonial administrators at the end of the century.
After the presentation, members and guests of the Kent Club for London Freemasons retired to the bar to socialise, before a thoroughly enjoyable evening came to way too early end!
