London Masons support cancer bereavement charity
The London Masons and the Masonic Charitable Foundation has donated £2,500 to support a London wide bereavement charity, The Loss Foundation is the only UK charity dedicated solely to providing bereavement support following the loss of a loved one to cancer, whether that be spouses, family members, friends or colleagues.
The charity was set up after a personal experience brought to light the lack of support for bereavement care. Their founder, Erin Hope Thompson, lost her father to cancer in 2008, and witnessed the struggle that her family experienced finding support, and coming to terms with their loss.
They provide a variety of support events to help people at any point during their loss, and create the opportunity for them to meet others who have experienced something similar. They also educate and empower others to support those who are grieving via a variety of workshops and training.
Their vision is to provide gold standard support for everyone bereaved by cancer and to tackle the taboo of grief in society. They focus on three main areas of work to help achieve their vision;
1. Providing a variety of free accessible support to people bereaved by cancer across the country.
2. Carrying out research to learn best practice in grief support and interventions.
3. Creating and pushing campaigns to help break the taboo of grief in society.
Dr Erin Hope Thompson, Director of The Loss Foundation, “I am delighted to receive this donation on behalf of “The Loss Foundation” our work is importance to supporting the community and this donation will help us achieve our objectives.
