Metropolitan Grand Lodge Summer Party
On Saturday 8th July the eagerly awaited second Metropolitan Grand Lodge Garden Party was hosted in the beautiful grounds of Queensmere near Wokingham.
While the day had dawned somewhat cool and cloudy, by the time the event started at 12:00, it was a beautiful, bright and sunny day, which could not have been more perfect for an open-air event.
Once again the house and grounds looked stunning, and tables, chairs and canopies had been set up in the garden. Wine, Pimms and cask beer flowed in abundance and on arrival guests were regaled with a stunning array of delicious freshly cooked savouries including locally produced gourmet sausages. Circus Scene had provided a children’s play area with numerous activities, and throughout the day many happy participants threw themselves into the amusements with gusto.
It was wonderful to see so many families attending and clearly enjoying the many facilities provided; there was swimming in the outdoor pool, canoeing on the lake, tennis, walking round the grounds or, of course, simply sitting at one’s ease, enjoying the food and drink, chatting with friends and soaking up the sunshine.
The event was enhanced by the provision of live music. There was a piano player in the sunken garden, and on the patio a singer/guitarist covered Beatles hits with an amazingly authentic sound.
The buffet lunch provided an imaginative variety of delicious hot and cold dishes and desserts including a magnificent cheeseboard. There was something to suit everyone and as much as anyone could eat.
Later in the day Sir Michael Snyder drew the raffle prizes to great acclaim. There were many happy winners, and a substantial sum was raised for the Tercentenary Appeal.
The generosity of our hosts made for a wonderful day with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It was a great opportunity to chat with other attendees and meet people from London and beyond.
